Colgate-Palmolive Recognized as Global Leader in Water Conservation

Colgate-Palmolive Recognized as Global Leader in Water Conservation

Published 10-28-15

Submitted by Colgate-Palmolive Company

For implementing a range of best practice actions to manage water and mitigate water risk, Colgate-Palmolive Company has been named to the 2015 CDP Water A List, an exclusive global list of corporate leaders. Colgate-Palmolive is one of only eight global companies to make the list by earning an A grade for its global water management efforts.

This first-of-its-kind list was produced by global non-government organization CDP, which holds the most comprehensive dataset of water information for corporate respondents, at the request of investors. Information provided by 405 listed companies was independently assessed against CDP’s scoring methodology – developed in collaboration with leading peers and experts in corporate water stewardship – and ranked accordingly.

“The business case for action to improve water security has never been stronger or more urgent,” said Cate Lamb, Head of Water at CDP. “For this reason we congratulate those businesses that have achieved a position on CDP’s Water A List.  These companies are responding to market demand for environmental accountability and at the same time are making progress towards the realization of sustainable economies.”

Recognizing the responsibility businesses have in addressing the global issue of water security, Colgate-Palmolive has made its commitment to water conservation an important part of the company’s global sustainability strategy. Colgate-Palmolive’s global strategy includes a commitment to “Making Every Drop of Water Count” and 2020 goals to:

  • Reduce manufacturing water intensity by half

  • Replenish water withdrawn in highly stressed regions

  • Increase supplier participation in our water stewardship program

  • Partner with local and global organizations to bring clean water to underserved areas of the world

  • Promote water conservation awareness to all our global consumers

"We’re delighted to have earned a spot on the CDP Water A List among the world’s best performing companies on water security,” said Lori Michelin, Vice President, Global Sustainability & Environmental, Health and Safety, Colgate-Palmolive. “Colgate's long-standing dedication to sustainability including our commitment to make every drop of water count, is helping to drive our strong performance and preserve vital resources for generations to come."
