Marking the sixth annual global day of service, today, thousands of L’Oréal USA employees are engaging in volunteer activities to benefit local communities in Arkansas, New Jersey, New York, Texas and Washington. More than 3,700 employees will be participating this year, donating a total of over 15,000 hours of community service in a single day.

As part of the company’s ongoing efforts to give back to its communities and consumers, L’Oréal USA launched a new theme for Volunteer Day this year focused on its three key corporate social commitments – Sustainability, Science and Beauty. The company partnered with New York Cares to create 15 projects within these three areas, including:

  • Sustainability
    • Recycled Green Garden: As part of the Garnier® and TerraCycle® partnership, employees will have the opportunity to build a green community garden- created with recycled beauty packaging- at a public school in the Bronx. Garnier has used over 3,000 pounds of recycled personal care waste to create Green Gardens in deserving communities. Last year, the Green Garden was built in Harlem, NY. This year, a national contest is determining which community will win the next Garnier Green Garden. Click here for more information.
    • Revitalize Lower East Side Ecology Center: L’Oreal employees will return to the Lower East Side Ecology Center this year to help support the community gardening movement and create a clean and vibrant urban space for locals to enjoy the outdoors.
  • Science
    • Science of Skin Experiment: Through hands-on experience focused on ecological and biological chemistry, L’Oreal USA employees will team up with K-6 students to as they create mixing solutions for sustainable dermatological products from all-natural ingredients.
  • Beauty
    • Job Readiness & Beauty Workshop: To forge new career opportunities for unemployed or underemployed women, L’Oreal USA volunteers will critique résumés, practice interview skills, and help job-seekers search and apply for jobs online. Participants will also be guided through a professional beauty workshop led by the company’s beauty experts.

“Giving back to our communities and consumers has always been a core value at L’Oreal,” says Kristina Schake, Chief Communications Officer, L’Oréal USA. “The engagement and spirit behind Volunteer Day truly inspires employees and citizens alike to create tangible impact through projects rooted in our company’s commitment to sustainability, science and beauty.”

L’Oréal USA was recently recognized for the fifth time by Ethisphere as a World’s Most Ethical Company® for its ethical standards of behavior and its commitment to operating a sustainable business which provides economic growth, environmental respect and social responsibility for its employees and consumers. The company’s sustainability commitment, “Sharing Beauty with All,” seeks to improve every part of its value chain, from research to operations, while sharing its growth with the communities it touches.
