Advancing its support for technological innovation and environmental sustainability, Union Bank, N.A., has teamed with Tesla Motors to open Orange County’s first Supercharger station for Tesla’s award-winning Model S electric sedan. The station is located at the Union Bank retail branch in San Juan Capistrano.

Executives from Union Bank and Tesla joined with San Juan Capistrano Mayor Sam Allevato and dozens of Tesla owners for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the high-tech charging station on May 28, 2014. Superchargers are free to use and can recharge the car’s battery in as little as 20 minutes, allowing Model S owners to continue driving for 265 miles on a single charge. Conveniently located near Interstate 5 on Camino Capistrano, the seven-stall Supercharger station is the first to open between San Diego and Los Angeles.

“Union Bank is proud to work with another forward-looking California business, Tesla Motors, to offer this remarkable service to our customers and members of the general public who have embraced this exciting new means of sustainable transportation,” said Union Bank Senior Vice President Robbin Narike Preciado, the bank’s Regional Executive for Orange County. “Building smart, mutually beneficial relationships are key to the way Union Bank operates, and we welcome the opportunity to stand with Tesla on the leading edge of such groundbreaking green technology.”

Tesla Superchargers allow Model S owners to travel for free between cities along well-traveled highways in North America. The Supercharger is substantially more powerful than any other charging technology in use today, providing up to 120 kilowatts of power and replenishing half a charge in 20 minutes. Supercharger stations are strategically placed to allow owners to drive from station to station with minimal stops.

“Superchargers are an integral part of Tesla’s vision to speed the adoption of sustainable transportation,” said Jeremy Snyder, Tesla’s General Manager for the South West Region. “Union Bank’s San Juan Capistrano branch provides an ideal location to serve Tesla owners traveling between Los Angeles and San Diego. By the time customers do their banking, grab lunch or enjoy a cup of coffee, their cars are charged and ready to go.”

The Supercharger at Union Bank’s branch at 31971 Camino Capistrano joins more than 90 other charging locations in North America. By 2015, Tesla expects its Supercharger network to serve 98 percent of the U.S. population as well as parts of Canada.
