Patrick Doherty, senior fellow at the New America Foundation, will outline the groundbreaking work of the “Grand Strategy Project” at The SRI Conference, November 9-11, 2014. The largest annual gathering of sustainable and responsible investors in North America, The SRI Conference on Sustainable, Responsible, Impact investing will celebrate 25 years in November at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs (www.SRIconference.com).

The Grand Strategy Project examines the international, social, economic and political landscape of the 21st century. The strategy, when complete, will provide a roadmap for U.S. foreign and domestic policy to accommodate three billion additional middle-class aspirants worldwide in two short decades—without provoking resource wars, insurgencies and the devastation of our planet's ecosystem.

Steve Schueth, producer of The SRI Conference and President of First Affirmative Financial Network said: “The Grand Strategy Project is important. The SRI Conference is pleased to announce that Patrick Doherty will speak to the process and impact of this project, and its significance to investors. Asset managers, advisors, analysts, and investors need to know about the Grand Strategy Project, and many will no doubt want to be involved going forward. We look forward to Mr. Doherty’s addressing our attendees in November.”

The New America Foundation is working with stakeholders to build the Grand Strategy Project to deliver prosperity, security, and sustainability in a complex global environment. The project delivered version 1.0 of the strategy to President Obama in December 2012, and is now advising on the development of an innovative new US-China strategic relationship, exploring the challenge of stranded hydrocarbon assets with Yale’s Center for Industrial Ecology, developing regional economic clusters across the nation, and preparing to go to Version 2.0 in partnership with Case Western Reserve University. The final product will be delivered to the 45th President.

Patrick Doherty is a senior fellow and director of the Smart Strategy Initiative. The Smart Strategy Initiative seeks to provoke a new discourse across the United States and world capitals on the central challenge facing the United States, the nature and function of American grand strategy and the contours of a new grand strategy capable of forging a prosperous, secure and sustainable future for the United States.

Before joining New America in 2007, Mr. Doherty was director of communications at the Center for National Policy, a Congressionally-focused national security think tank. Prior to that, he was a senior editor at TomPaine.com, an online journal of politics and policy, where he was responsible for coverage of national security, macroeconomics, energy and the environment. Before returning to Washington, Mr. Doherty spent ten years in the Middle East, Africa, the Balkans and the Caucuses working at the intersection of conflict and development.
