Hippo Works, the Venice Beach-based eco animation studio, is online launching a half-hour cartoon musical Eco Heroes Save The Climate this Earth Day, April 22 [click for trailer].

Whole Foods sponsored the film’s earlier DVD premiere at a solar-powered theater in Los Angeles. Since then NASA has been screening the film for educational outreach to kids, and it’s now traveling to Manhattan’s Pier 94 on April 26-27 as part of Green America and Global Exchange’s nationally touring Green Festivals.

Hippo Works founder, cartoonist Denis Thomopoulos, created this film after receiving requests from fans of his annual Earth Day cartoons for a more in-depth story on one of the most important issues of our time.

Along with the film’s arrival in New York comes another one of Denis’s eco creations – a Faberge egg he painted that depicts migrating Asian elephants at the request of The Elephant Family, a nonprofit devoted to protecting elephants’ migratory corridors from encroaching development. The egg can be found at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum April 1-17th, then at Rockefeller Center April 18 prior to its sale at Sotheby’s to raise funds for the elephants.

Denis’s mission is a big one – to create cartoons that entertain and inspire kids to care for our Earth. As he writes on hippoworks.com, “we stand on what we stand for.”

Of the Eco Heroes movie, actor and environmentalist Ed Begley Jr. says
“Your kids will love this fun and charming film and, better still, be inspired by it. Eco Heroes Save The Climate shows how our actions affect the planet – all in a great adventure story.” And with each purchase, Hippo Works buys 1000 sq. ft. of jungle through Conservation International to help kids be eco heroes too.

About Denis and Hippo Works
Denis Thomopoulos turned a Masters degree from Oxford into an early career working for world-renowned filmmakers such as David Puttnam and Irwin Winkler – only to realize his heart was in cartooning and the environment. So Denis took a red hippo named Simon he’d drawn for a best-selling t-shirt in college and made him the star of his new eco animation company, Hippo Works. Denis has syndicated and licensed Simon along with a host of animal characters to companies such as AOL, National Geographic Kids, Paramount Vantage, SWAPE (Soil Water Air Protection Enterprise), Care2.com, Con Edison, and Clear Channel, among others. His characters also appear on organic products at Whole Foods in Southern California with purchases saving square feet of jungle through Conservation International.
