Old computers and other eWaste are unloaded outside Tekserve's 23rd Street store.

As warmer weather finally arrives, spring-cleaning New Yorkers get a chance to dispose of their old electronics properly in an eWaste Recycling Drive hosted by Tekserve, New York’s Store for Technology, in conjunction with the Lower East Side Ecology Center.

The drive, held outside Tekserve’s iconic storefront on 23rd Street and 6th Avenue, Saturday, April 26th, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., is part of quarterly efforts to alert New Yorkers to the potential hazardous nature of their disposed electronics, and give them the ability to discard them properly. Recycling is free and available to all residents, small businesses (with 50 or fewer employees) and not-for-profits.

Those who are unable to make the April 26th date, or who need a more convinient location, can find a full list of times and destinations on Tekserve’s website at www.tekserve.com/recycling.

Mark Seibel, Director of Retail at Tekserve, says: “Tekserve’s mission is to be there with you for the lifecycle of your electronics – whether selecting the right iPad as a gift or extending the life of your Mac.” He adds: “Bringing your old electronics to Tekserve’s eWaste event can be a field day trip for a family and helps teach the next generation about the importance of proper waste disposal.”

Discarded electronics represent only 2% of America’s trash in landfills, but account for over 70% of the toxic materials contained in landfills. Sponsored recycling events like Tekserve’s make it easier for New Yorkers to properly dispose of their old electronic gear and gadgets, which contain hazardous materials such as lead, cadmium and mercury.

Tekserve offers special services and rewards to eWaste recyclers. Recyclers are eligible to enter a raffle to win a new MacBook Air. Recyclers also receive a coupon for $25 off a purchase of $100 or more at Tekserve.
