Newmont Mining Corporation (NYSE: NEM) has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) for the seventh consecutive year. The 2013 DJSI World – Dow Jones' premier sustainability index – includes DJSI-Newmont333 global companies identified as leaders in the areas of sustainable economic, environmental and social performance. In 2007, Newmont became the first gold company included in the DJSI World and also has been included on the DJSI North America Index every year since 2006.

"We are proud to be recognized as leaders in the areas of sustainable development and responsible resource management, particularly in light of growing expectations for better industry engagement and performance in these areas. Collaborating with stakeholders to mitigate risk and increase the shared value we create through our mining and refining operations is central to our business strategy, and something we never stop working to improve," said Gary Goldberg, Newmont's President and Chief Executive Officer.

DJSI World tracks the performance of 2,500 leading companies worldwide, independently evaluating their long-term economic, environmental and social performance. The top 10 percent of performers are selected from among 59 industry groups.

DJSI evaluates companies based on a variety of criteria, including transparency, corporate governance, risk and crisis management, environmental management and performance, stakeholder engagement, community development, energy management and climate change, biodiversity, human resources and safety.

More information on Newmont's environmental and social performance can be found in the company's annual sustainability report, Beyond the Mine. The report is published as part of the company's ongoing obligations as a founding member of the International Council on Mining and Metals and in accordance with its commitments under the United Nations' Global Compact and the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights.
