As Americans prepare to mark the anniversary of the September 11th attacks, the national ‘One America’ tour led by Points of Light and JPMorgan Chase & Co. stopped in New York today to reinforce the power of service. A diverse group of New Yorkers including New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz, CEO of Union Square Hospitality Group Danny Meyer and Fox News contributor, co-host of The Five and former White House Press Secretary for President George W. Bush Dana Perino kicked off the day of service that helped rebuild five homes destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. Victor Cruz was also honored with the Daily Point of Light award for his philanthropic work with children around advancing academic achievement and physical fitness.

“Despite any differences, we can unite through volunteer service to solve the challenges facing our communities. This is what the One America campaign is all about," said Tracy Hoover, President, Points of Light. "As we mark the anniversary of 9/11 and approach the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, we are reminded of how important it is for people to commit to service, just as they did in the wake of these two disasters.”

Volunteers from New York Cares and JPMorgan Chase & Co. worked with the St. Bernard Project, a national disaster recovery organization, and its local partners, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and Friends of Rockaway to help owners of storm-damaged homes.

"Today shows the real value and impact of volunteerism. St. Bernard Project has more than 200 Sandy-affected families on our waiting list, but with the support of our partners and volunteers we will continue providing clear, prompt, and efficient paths home for our clients. Today we celebrate, and tomorrow the work continues," said Reese May, Director of East Coast Operations, St. Bernard Project.

"Service, citizenship and support for our communities is core to who we are at JPMorgan Chase. We believe it is our fundamental corporate responsibility to use all of our assets – our scale, global reach, expertise and access to capital – to support and invest in these communities and we often work with partners to deliver solutions," said Peter L. Scher, Executive Vice President and Global Head of Corporate Responsibility, JPMorgan Chase & Co. "We are pleased to continue our partnership with St. Bernard Project with this grant, which will help them continue to rebuild homes that were destroyed by Hurricane Sandy and help families return to their lives."
