Practically Green, a digital engagement company, announced today that it has introduced a new enterprise platform designed to motivate global businesses and their employees to adopt healthy, sustainable choices within their organization and everyday lives.

Practically Green’s cloud-based platform leverages social networks and game mechanics to build awareness of sustainable practices, empower action, and measure impact.

In addition, the company announced that Facebook’s Sustainability Guru Bill Weihl has joined its Board of Directors.

“This platform is groundbreaking in how we use customized programs, game mechanics and internal social networks to engage employees, build awareness and drive measurable action locally and globally,” said Practically Green’s Founder & CEO Susan Hunt Stevens. “It also enhances the tools available to clients who have large, global and increasingly mobile-enabled workforces and diverse sustainability and responsibility initiatives.”

Practically Green’s clients include global sustainability leaders Unilever, CA Technologies, Sony Electronics, NBCUniversal, Sony Pictures a Greener World, and Caesars Entertainment. Clients use the company’s tools to develop and track employee engagement initiatives. A proprietary scoring system allows for baseline assessment and competition and collaboration with peers. Additional features of the platform include:

  • Themed Projects: employees can join themed projects with co-workers (reduced impact on business travel, zero-waste workplace) and work together to reach a collective sustainability goal. Projects can be created or customized for specific geographies and job functions.
  • Repeatable and One-Time Actions: employees can work on forming habits and measure progress for specific repeatable actions (take public transportation, powering down their computer) or complete one-time actions, many with ongoing benefits (install solar, switch to an LED desk lamp).
  • Enhanced Social Features: in addition to commenting and liking, users can post photos after completing an action, and tag friends and coworkers to share tips and expertise.
  • Analytics Suite: clients can monitor and measure participation and engagement rates as well as environmental impact and financial savings.

Stevens continued, “We have learned that every successful company has their own definition of sustainability. At Practically Green, we help them create and run tangible, effective, and fun employee engagement programs, tied to their sustainability strategies, which deliver measurable environmental, social and financial impact.

The company’s platform integrates with intranets, email systems and enterprise directory systems and is available on mobile devices.

Leading Sustainability Expert from Facebook Bill Weihl Joins Board
In other news, the Company announced that Facebook Sustainability Guru Bill Weihl has joined its Board of Directors. “We are extremely pleased to welcome Bill to the Practically Green board,” said Stevens. “Bill has deep and unique expertise in the intersection of social media, technology and sustainability that will prove invaluable as Practically Green continues its growth trajectory. Prior to Facebook, Weihl was the green energy czar for Google and before that, he was the CTO of Akamai.

“Practically Green is a pioneer in leveraging the power of social networks to influence employee’s actions,” said Weihl. “I am incredibly excited and impressed by what they are doing and look forward to working with the team.”
