2013 Environmental Innovation Map

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Business Civic Leadership Center (BCLC) today launched its 2013 Environmental Innovation Map, which features more than 100 projects that demonstrate the versatility and ability of the business sector to turn environmental challenges into opportunities.

“The creativity and innovation businesses bring to solving environmental challenges is substantial,” said U.S. Chamber Foundation Executive Vice President Alfonso Martinez-Fonts. “The Environmental Innovation Map shows how some businesses are already addressing these challenges and can encourage others to develop their own innovative solutions.”

The projects included in the Map represent specific types of business initiatives: those that deviate from standard practices or innovate a current practice to improve environmental benefit; those that fall outside the core competency of a business; and those that exhibit new, creative approaches to long-standing, conventional environmental challenges. Featured projects were chosen by a group of representatives from BCLC and Green Plus.

“Sustainability initiatives are key levers for economic growth and competitiveness today,” said Claude Griffin, Social Investment Manager Environment of Shell Oil Company. “The Environmental Innovation Map is a key reference for the business, nonprofit, and government communities to discover leaders in their communities and learn about new environmental strategies.”
