Youth-led non profit Teens Turning Green is hitting the road with an unprecedented initiative called The Conscious College Road Tour. It begins at Rice University in Houston, Texas on March 25 in partnership with the Rice Environmental Club. The eco journey will stop at 14 universities across the country before finishing in mid May. Members of the traveling TTG team include Founder/Director Judi Shils, Co-Founder/Global Spokesperson Erin Schrode, and Program Director Jonathan Foley. The two-day campus stops seek to inform, raise awareness, and inspire conscious living with three key components:

  • The Conscious Information Station: resources, sampling, demos, and fun activities
  • The Conscious Collection: a display of eco, ethical essential items for college life that TTG aims to introduce to campus bookstores and convenience stores
  • Town Hall Meeting: to bring students, faculty, and school leaders into conversation about how to launch FG 15 on campuses and refine the materials collectively

“The Conscious Collection is precisely what my peers are asking for – effective, useful, and practical items that are safe, healthy and sustainable AND available where we live, work, and breathe as students. It’s tremendously exciting to introduce such a top notch collection to universities nationwide,” says Erin Schrode, Co-Founder of Teens Turning Green and 21-year-old senior at New York University.

The Conscious College Road Tour seeks to mainstream conscious living in college life through simple, fun, high impact products and practices, while empowering student leaders to develop and implement projects that lead to more sustainable campuses. TTG will work to mentor these young leaders, offer resources and support, and create collaborative global networks of change-makers.

“We will be visiting many campuses where TTG has student campaign members – to support their powerful work and deepen collaboration with students and faculty, as well as school and community leaders. TTG is introducing Freshman Green 15 and stirring up support in advance of Project Green Challenge 2013,” says Judi Shils, Director of Teens Turning Green.

FG15 is designed to raise awareness about conscious living and mindful consumption among incoming freshman with the electronic FG15 Welcome Packet (Eco Tips for Sustainable College Living, a Back to School Green Packing List, and a Freshman Green 15 Survival Kit). Project Green Challenge is TTG’s eco lifestyle challenge that invites students to go from conventional to conscious in 30 days each October.

“Rice Environmental Club is looking forward to making sustainability a priority for the general student population by increasing environmental education at new student orientation. TTG and the Conscious College Road Tour will be a great way for us to get the conversation started with materials ready to go,” says Skye Kelty of the Rice Environmental Club.
