According to the US EPA, the party and event industry is the second largest waste generator in the USA, just behind the construction industry.  To address this problem, 28-year old Brooklyn residents Emily Doubilet and Jessica Holsey decided to bring sustainability into the world of parties and events by creating Susty Party's line of compostable, non-toxic party plates, bowls and straws, made in the USA from renewable plant materials.

"Launching into Whole Foods Market® is a huge step in helping us achieve our mission: making the world a better place and having fun at the same time," said Holsey.

Susty Party is a for-benefit certified B Corporation and a YouthTrade company driven by conscious entrepreneurship. "Our mission guides everything we do," said Doubilet. "We're pumped to add more products to our line and continue to encourage people and the party industry to have fun and make sustainable choices at the same time."

In May, Susty Party plates, bowls and straws launched into all Whole Foods Markets in New England.  Distribution has since expanded to include  all Whole Foods Markets in the Northeast and a launch  into the Mid-Atlantic by the holiday season.

To announce the New York City launch, co-owners Doubilet and Holsey are throwing a party at the Whole Foods Bowery location in NYC on August 15, with the help of other NYC and Brooklyn-based Whole Foods Market vendors and friends: Anarchy in a Jar, Brooklyn Brine Co., Brooklyn Salsa Company, Hot Bread Kitchen, Kombucha Brooklyn, Liddabit Sweets, Phin and Phebes, Runa Tea, and Steve’s Ice Cream.

"The event is intended to be a celebration of entrepreneurship, community, and respect for the environment," said Holsey. Doubilet added: "We live by our motto: Respect Earth & party on!"
