(Marketwire) - Gehry Technologies (GT), a global leader in applying technology to building industry challenges, today announced it has completed the acquisition of Bimshare, an innovative, privately-held company based in the Netherlands. On the heels of launching its 3D collaboration platform, GTeam™, GT is expanding its cloud-based service offerings with this acquisition. Bimshare offers a popular building information modeling (BIM) data sharing solution that provides the easiest way to upload and share 3D models online through browsers on desktop or mobile devices. Through its elegant and easy interface Bimshare enables architects, building owners, contractors, fabricators, and engineers to quickly and securely share BIM data on demand. A SaaS-based solution, Bimshare is a natural addition to GT's BIM collaboration strategy focused on the AEC industry. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

"Collaboration and mobile platforms are poised to make a revolutionary impact at the construction site and within facilities management departments," said Deep Bhattacharya, EVP of Business Development and Strategy of GT. "However, there are no compelling solutions available today that allow open, easy access to BIM data for design, construction and facilities management professionals. This acquisition complements our field-tested collaboration technology, and provides a definitive path to mobile platforms."

According to a 2012 Pike Research report, annual worldwide revenue for BIM products and services solutions will grow from $1.8 billion in 2012 to almost $6.5 billion in 2020. The adoption of BIM tools and practices will become a higher priority, since they can significantly affect the efficient use of scarce and valuable resources. According to the report, GT is a leader within the BIM software market. With the combination of Bimshare and GT, this leadership position broadens and customers will begin to experience and recognize the value of easy BIM data sharing and collaboration. "The Bimshare technology has been very easy for us to adopt and use on a variety of projects involving 3D models," said Jeroen Coenders, Associate at Arup, ranked the #1 largest mixed-use design firm by BD&C. "We're excited about this acquisition and look forward to deploying the joint GTeam - Bimshare solution."

Through this agreement GT also extends its international presence and strengthens its web development expertise in WebGL, HTML5, and other advanced technologies critical to widespread product adoption on desktops, tablets, and mobile devices. "We have quickly gained customer traction from Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) firms of all sizes with our easy to use 3D sharing solution," said Sven van der Biezen, CEO and co-founder of Bimshare. "Gehry Technologies is a brand that's respected and recognized worldwide with a unique standing in the AEC industry that positions them for rapid growth in a large market." Marijn van Aerle, CTO and co-founder of Bimshare agreed and concluded by saying, "Our vision and culture match perfectly and by combining forces with GT we have the assets needed to deliver a revolutionary data platform for this industry."

Existing Bimshare customers may continue to use the service and user signups will continue to be honored at the Bimshare website.
