/PRNewswire/ - Houston-based CITGO Marketer Susser Petroleum Company and CITGO Petroleum Corporation recently launched the West Briar Middle School Honey Bears "Be A Star. Buy A Star." fundraiser to benefit childhood literacy. From Saturday, Jan. 14, through Tuesday, Jan. 31, the Honey Bears will sell paper "Stars" for $1 at the Memorial CITGO station in Houston. All of the proceeds will go toward new books for children in need.

"It's amazing how a simple plan and hard work from students like the Honey Bears can make such a big difference in our community," said Ken Dixon of Susser Oil.  "When it comes to helping children have access to books, even a single dollar has an impact. Susser is honored to partner with CITGO in support of this cause."

The West Briar Middle School Honey Bears serve as role models by encouraging literacy and providing resources for children in need. Through their work, the drill team is fulfilling a commitment to give back. With the support of Susser, CITGO and the West Briar Middle School, the young women hope to raise more than $2,000 to help the HISD Elementary School library.

"Reading is such a vital part of any child's education. By putting more books in students' hands, children will have the opportunity to explore new worlds and expand their imaginations," said Cindy Henry, Principal at the West Briar Middle School. "Thanks to the help of Susser Oil and CITGO, the West Briar Honey Bears' 'Be A Star. Buy A Star.' fundraiser will have a meaningful, recognizable impact upon our community."

Throughout the "Be A Star. Buy A Star." campaign, people are invited to visit the Memorial CITGO Station, located at 14754 Memorial Drive in Houston, to purchase a paper "Star," designed by a member of the Honey Bear Drill Team.  For every star purchased, a dollar will go toward the improvement of the HISD school library.
