Framework:CR, a consulting firm that helps clients integrate sustainability principles into business strategy to build brand value and  enhance profitability, has named Sun McElderry its new Director of Communications & Content. He will be based in a new Seattle-area Framework office.

Sun brings fifteen years of experience in media and corporate communications to his new role at Framework. His well-rounded media background and experience in branding and marketing communications will enable Framework to expand its strategic consulting work for clients while continuing to enhance its sustainability communications practice and development of the firm’s proprietary research and publications.

Most recently, Sun served for more than five years as an account director in the New York and Seattle offices of Story Worldwide, a leading global custom media agency, where he helped UPS, Bank of America, and Holland America Lines, among other clients, develop award-winning publications, shareholder communications, and marketing programs. Sun has also written and edited for numerous magazine and book publishers, including Condé Nast and Grove/Atlantic. At Grove/Atlantic he edited the 2003 New York Times nonfiction bestseller Triangle: The Fire That Changed America, which traces the roots of the modern corporate responsibility concept to the infamous Triangle Shirtwaist Factory tragedy. His involvement with social and environmental causes also includes time spent as an AmeriCorps VISTA member, volunteer teacher and mentor to migrant workers and urban youth, and producer of benefit concerts.

“I’m very excited to be part of the Framework team at a moment when we can join other forward-thinking organizations to shape how those of us in the business community view our purpose and potential in a changing world,” Sun said. “Framework is pursuing cutting edge ideas and services, such as the application of financial-valuation modeling to sustainability strategy and the development of integrated accountability reporting, which combines the content of traditional SEC filings with substantive environmental, social, and governance metrics.”

Framework CEO Kathee Rebernak said, “We’re very pleased to have Sun join the firm. His creative energy and ability to understand and meet clients’ needs will augment a team already known for providing exceptional service and counsel. And having him establish our West Coast office will be an added benefit to our clients in that region, several of which are leading technology companies.”

Born in South America and raised in the Caribbean, Sun recently relocated from New York to Bainbridge Island, Washington, where he lives with his wife, Yoko, and two young children.
