Popular navigation service makes it easy for pedestrians to be green with three new initiatives

Today, HopStop, the leading provider of pedestrian navigation and mobile transit routing, introduced three major green initiatives: a carbon emissions savings calculator on all HopStop.com search results, a partnership with The Green Restaurant Association, and certification as a B Corporation.

In response to user requests, HopStop launched a carbon emissions savings calculator to allow users who are searching for local directions on HopStop.com to quantify the positive impact of their transit-based travel on the environment, as compared to driving a car; and to identify the best transit, walking or biking route in order to minimize their carbon footprint.

“We’re excited that HopStop users can now conveniently view their total carbon emissions savings within their directions results,” said Joe Meyer, CEO of HopStop. “Now our environmentally-conscious users can better understand the positive impact that their commuting behavior is having on the earth while still getting to where they need to go.”

HopStop is also helping users dine greener through a partnership with The Green Restaurant Association, a nonprofit organization that certifies restaurants that meet their rigorous environmental standards as Certified Green Restaurants®. Through this partnership, HopStop powers directions to all of the Certified Green Restaurants® within the Dine Green directory, and has also created a Green Restaurants® category within its own popular City Guide.

“We’re thrilled to partner with an eco-conscious service like HopStop to help people easily make their way to our Certified Green Restaurants®,” said Michael Oshamn, CEO and Founder of Green Restaurant Association. “HopStop has always made it easy for people to travel green, and now they’re making it easy for people to Dine Green as well.”

In conjunction with these two green initiatives, HopStop was recently recognized as a Certified B Corporation, a “Good Business” standard created by B Lab to measure a company’s positive impact on its employees, suppliers, community, and the environment.

“It’s wonderful to see a company like HopStop achieve B Corp certification,” said Dermot Hikisch, Director of Business Development at B Lab. “Not only is HopStop innovating how we get to where we want to go, but they’re also doing it in a manner that benefits both people and our planet.”
