In the Life Media, a group founded on the premise that visibility in media is vital to achieving equality and social justice for LGBT people, worked with Dow on the story, entitled "A Message of Hope."

Dow's portion of the story, told by members of the Company's GLAD (Gays, Lesbians and Allies at Dow) Network, shows how diversity and inclusion is embraced at Dow and how the Company is striving to provide an environment where every employee can reach his or her full potential and achieve personal fulfillment and professional success, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

"Dow's GLAD network has been a strong force in promoting diversity & inclusion and in advocating for the fundamental rights of LGBT in the workplace both inside and outside of the Company since its formation more than 10 years ago," said Howard Ungerleider, executive vice president for Dow and executive sponsor of GLAD. "This is yet another proof point that these efforts have not gone unnoticed, and we are pleased to have the opportunity to share our story."

Many states in the U.S. have yet to pass laws protecting LGBT people from being fired based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. Dow's global Respect and Responsibility policy, however, provides the Company's employees with this protection and helps create an environment in which all employees can focus on their jobs rather than fear of being discriminated for who they are.

Over the past several years, Dow through its GLAD network has earned recognition from several premiere national and international LGBT organizations, including the Human Rights Council; International Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce; Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays; and Lambda Legal.

Most recently, Dow received two highly coveted "Outie" awards from Out & Equal: the 2010 Significant Achievement Award, which recognizes an employer that has made significant strides in advancing a fair and equitable workplace for its LGBT employees; and the 2010 Trailblazer Award -- which recognizes an LGBT person who has made significant contributions to advancing workplace equality by helping improve their own workplace or contributing to equality nationally. The recipient of this award, Bill Hendrix, Dow AgroSciences biology team leader for insect traits and seed treatments and co-chair for Dow's GLAD network, is profiled in the PBS segment.

GLAD recently celebrated its 10-year anniversary with Dow and is one of seven diversity networks which comprise 150 local chapters around the world for the Company.
