Community Links Co-Founder David Robinson will be outlining an approach to building a society that prevents social problems from arising rather than one that copes with their consequences in a speech to the Convergence CSR network in London on March 15th.

Community Links is one of the UK's largest local charities founded more than 30 years ago and was a pioneer in the Corporate Social Responsibility field. They now work with more than 30,000 people a year through a network of community development projects in east London. Extensive partnerships with businesses from The City and Canary Wharf support local work with children, young people and families.

David is also one of the architects of the Social Impact Bond - a new financial instrument for funding early action, which he first proposed in 2007. It is now being developed internationally and David currently chairs the advisory group for the first SIB funded programme supporting the rehabilitation of offenders.

David Robinson says:

At Community Links we know that building fences at the top of the cliff rather than running ambulances at the bottom makes sense socially and financially. Policy that supports earlier action reduces the deficit in ways that sustain positive social change. Making this case now is particularly important because we have a financial instrument for supporting early action. The first Social Impact Bond launched this year was over subscribed. We need to seize the moment, build the market and develop the potential.

David will be speaking as part of the Convergence CSR network 'Interesting Speakers' series of events at the Charterhouse Bar, 38 Charterhouse Street EC1M 6JH at 6:00pm. Tickets are free but must be booked in advance from the Convergence Website www.seekingconvergence.com.
