Keep America Beautiful, Inc. (KAB), the nation's largest nonprofit community improvement organization, has awarded Nestlé Waters North America, Inc. (NWNA) its 2010 Vision for America Award at a gala dinner in Stamford.

Keep America Beautiful honored NWNA for the corporation's leadership in source reduction, innovative recycling practices, resource stewardship, and community involvement. The Vision for America Award is presented annually to distinguished leaders of honored corporations whose personal and corporate commitment have significantly enhanced civic, environmental and social stewardship throughout the United States.

"I'm honored to accept the Vision for America Award on behalf of all the company's 7,500 employees," said Kim Jeffery, president and CEO, upon receiving the 25th annual award. "Responsibility to the communities where we operate, and to the environment, is at the core of our business. And while we're thrilled with this award, I'm certain that we can continue to do even more - particularly in the area of recycling."

"Nestlé Waters has been a committed partner to KAB as well as many other organizations, and we've been thrilled with the company's aggressive approach to recycling and its commitment to using recycled materials in its packaging," said Keep America Beautiful President and CEO Matthew M. McKenna. "With substantial savings of energy, carbon emissions, and natural resources, recycling is the best way for all individuals to play a role in improving the environment."

KAB cited several specific corporate efforts which led to the recognition:

  • A 60 percent reduction in the amount of PET plastic used in packaging over the last 15 years through package design and "lightweighting" of materials

  • Use of 50 percent recycled PET plastic in re-source natural spring water packaging and a commitment to produce a bottle made from 100 percent recycled/renewable resources by 2020

  • A 30 percent reduction in CO2 emissions per liter of water in the past 5 years

  • More than 3.5 million square feet of LEED certified manufacturing plants

  • Support for preservation of public spaces through the National Parks Conservation Association

  • Support of community improvement and recycling through KAB's Great American Cleanup and America Recycles Day programs

  • Support of "on the go" recycling through grants to communities and grassroots organizations

  • Support for aggressive recycling legislation that includes PET plastic water bottles

  • Support of local infrastructure and institutions in the communities where the company operates

Additionally, as part of the event, Nestlé Waters donated 400 fleece jackets made from recycled PET plastic to the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford.

"The Boys & Girls Club of Stamford is very appreciative of the support and important resources that Nestlé Waters North America has provided to our club members," said Michael Cotela, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford. "We applaud Kim Jeffery for being a visionary leader of our community," added Jeffrey Starcher, Regional Services Director of the Boys & Girls Club of America.

Keep America Beautiful salutes NWNA for taking its role as a corporate citizen seriously through its ongoing commitment to the environment and communities.
