BJ's Wholesale Club announces today that through its Adopt-A-School (ADAS) Program they will partner with more than 190 schools in its 15-state footprint to help enhance existing programs and curriculum objectives that best meet the educational needs of children and families in every community we serve.

"BJ's Wholesale Club takes great pride in supporting educational programs, and since 1996, our Adopt-A-School Program has provided students with opportunities that help them grow into active citizens throughout their communities," said Jessica Newman, manager of community relations for BJ's Wholesale Club.

BJ's offers two versions of its ADAS Program: "Giving" and "GRADES". Schools participating in the Giving Program receive a one-time donation to use toward discretionary programs such as field trips and special events, reading enhancement programs or other educational needs. The program also provides a complimentary BJ's Membership and invitations to BJ's-sponsored events that promote good citizenship or build learning skills.

In addition to the benefits in the Giving Program, the GRADES schools work with BJ's Community Relations Specialists to develop customized partnership plans focused on curriculum enhancement, community involvement and fundraising. In years past, BJ's has worked with schools on local donation drives, USA WEEKEND Magazine's national Make A Difference Day as well as Teacher Appreciation Week and Field Days. Schools then work with their local BJ's Clubs to implement these plans.

Oakleaf Village Elementary School in Orange Park, FL, one of the "adopted" GRADES schools last year, worked with a Community Relations Specialist for various programs including writing letters to send to deployed U.S. troops and attending an in-Club event to learn about the importance of service dogs. They also received donations for school-wide events from snacks during the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test® to grilling products for their Fall Carnival.

"Kids are always up for a little friendly competition and that's just what BJ's created with the Reading Challenge at our school," said Colette Wyant, principal of Oakleaf Village Elementary School. "The winning classes were so proud when the teacher read out loud how many points they earned when tested on the books! The cake party that BJ's also sponsored was an extra treat."
