In this SRI in the Rockies Speaker Interview, host Joe Sibilia speaks with Geeta Aiyer, President and Founder of Boston Common Asset Management, an independent, employee-owned investment manager specializing in sustainable and responsible equity and balanced strategies.

As a portfolio manager, Ms. Aiyer combines her commitment to sustainability with her training and experience in investment theory and finance. She has worked with investments for 25 years, and was formerly President of the Walden Asset Management Division of the United States Trust Company of Boston (USTC).

Here, Ms. Aiyer reflects on the role of business in addressing environmental and social challenges, contending that, "The responsibility of business is to do no harm to the Commons and to contribute to the Commons." She and Mr. Sibilia discuss the recent BP oil spill: Why many "missed" the lack of safety precautions, the importance of engagement between investors the extractive industries, as well as what actions were taken by Boston Common after the disaster to meet client objectives.

Geeta Aiyer is scheduled to speak on the topic of "Growth and Change in Emerging Markets: Balancing Sustainability and Prosperity" at the 2010 SRI in the Rockies Conference in San Antonio Texas on November 19, 2010.
