Herbalist & Alchemist, manufacturer of high quality herbals products developed by clinical herbalist, author and noted ethnobotanist David Winston RH (AHG), is pleased to announce they have been accepted as a Certified B Corporation.

B Corporations, certified as meeting rigorous standards by B Lab, are those that use the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. The performance standards, incorporating social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability, are comprehensive and transparent. They measure a company's impact on its employees, suppliers, community, and the environmental. Unlike traditional corporations, Certified B Corporations are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their employees, suppliers, community, consumers, and environment.

"We became a B Corporation because for almost 30 years we have been running our company on similar principles to the B Corporation standards, making products that are good for people in a way that is good for the earth," said Herbalist & Alchemist CEO Beth Lambert. "We became a B Corporation to join with a group of like-minded businesses who share these principles and focus collective energy on truly changing the way we live."

Certified B Corporations 1) meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance; 2) legally expand their corporate responsibilities to include consideration of stakeholder interests; and 3) build collective voice through the power of the unifying B Corporation brand. As of June 2010, there are over 300 certified B Corporations from over 50 industries, representing a diverse multi-billion marketplace.

Herbalist & Alchemist submitted substantial documentation to B Lab in order to become certified. B Lab is a nonprofit organization dedicated to using the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. B Lab drives systemic change through three interrelated initiatives: 1) building a community of Certified B Corporations to make it easier for all of us to tell the difference between "good companies" and just good marketing; 2) accelerating the growth of the impact investing asset class through use of B Lab's GIIRS impact rating system by institutional investors; and 3) promoting supportive public policies, including creation of a new corporate form and tax, procurement, and investment incentives for sustainable business.
