Johnson Controls (NYSE: JCI) today announced its inclusion in Corporate Responsibility Magazine's 11th annual 100 Best Corporate Citizens List. The company ranked 22nd based on its performance in seven key areas - environment, climate change, human rights, philanthropy, employee relations, financial and governance.

"Corporate Responsibility Magazine's ranking recognizes Johnson Controls' longstanding commitment to corporate responsibility," said Charles A. Harvey, vice president of Diversity and Public Affairs at Johnson Controls. "Since the invention of the first electric room thermostat in 1885, Johnson Controls has offered products and services that improve comfort, safety, and sustainability. We are committed to the communities in which our employees live and work and are proud to have been recognized in this ranking."

"Company stakeholders from investors to customers to employees to regulators watch the 100 Best Corporate Citizens List closely, and are using it now more than ever to make important decisions," said Corporate Responsibility Magazine publisher Jay Whitehead.

The 100 Best Corporate Citizens List was first published in 1999 in Business Ethics Magazine, and has been managed by CRO and Corporate Responsibility Magazine since 2007. In order to compile the list, every company in the Russell 1000, the highest ranked stocks in the Russell 3000 Index of publicly held US companies, is ranked according to over 360 data points of information. The methodology for generating the list is governed by a Methodology Committee of the Corporate Responsibility Officers Association (CROA).
