TY Danjuma Foundation Appoints Thelma Ekiyor As First Executive Director

ABUJA, Nigeria, Jan. 13 /CSRwire/ - Ms. Thelma Ekiyor has been appointed as the first Executive Director of the TY Danjuma Foundation, an independent private perpetual foundation dedicated to improving the quality of life of Nigerians. The Foundation’s initial focus is to support initiatives that increase access to health care and educational opportunities in Taraba State.

Prior to joining the Danjuma Foundation, Ms. Ekiyor led the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI), based in Accra, Ghana, established by the Open Society Initiative for West Africa.

Lieutenant General T. Y. Danjuma, Founder and Chair of the Danjuma Foundation, who has a long history of philanthropic giving in Nigeria says "Thelma Ekiyor has worked across the African continent effectively with non-governmental organizations, governments, United Nations agencies, Regional Economic Communities and international donors. These experiences make her a respected leader and an ideal choice to serve as our first Executive Director," says "We are confident that she is the right person at the right time to design new strategies and programmes that will generate positive opportunities for the people of Nigeria."

Ms. Ekiyor also served as Director of Programmes at the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP), and Senior Manager of Conflict Intervention and Peace-building support at the Centre for Conflict Resolution at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. She has a Law Degree from University of Buckingham and a Fellowship from Stanford University and co-authored several books and written extensively on governance and development issues affecting Africa.
