Sodexo today issued its North America 2008-2009 Corporate Citizenship Report highlighting the company's progress and commitment to be a leader in the areas of environmental performance, sustainable food and agriculture, health and wellbeing, and fighting hunger, among other areas. The report also lays out the new, performance-oriented measures the company will employ in its sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts going forward. The report is available electronically at www.sodexousa.com.

Key highlights in the report:

  • Sodexo in 2009 was named one of the World's Most Ethical Companies by the Ethisphere Institute, and was named Worldwide Sector Leader by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for the fourth year in a row.
  • Creation of the Sustainability Education and Expert Development (SEED) management program to share experiences and best practices among Sodexo's employees and 6,000 clients throughout North America. The program already has identified site level eco-efficiencies that resulted in substantial energy and water savings.
  • The company will expand its engagement with leaders in environment, health, and community development.
  • The company will continue to promote sustainable food and agriculture by purchasing locally grown products from farmers in communities across the nation, and by offering a range of fairly and responsibly traded products.
