NewPage Corporation announced today the recent upload of yet another On Paper series podcast featuring an interview with Lorie Wigle, Eco-Technology General Manager for Intel. Designed to bring about positive change in the area of sustainability, this bi-weekly broadcast, now in its second season, has already passed more than one million downloads from popular sites like iTunes.

Intel, driven to create bold advancements in technology that enable positive change and a better, more interesting world, is the global leader in silicon innovation. In this On Paper interview, Wigle explains Intel's four areas of focus in the production of their environmentally-responsible products including manufacturing/operations, energy efficiency, design for the environment and work with policy makers.

"From an Intel perspective, the really critical thing, we think, is a focus on our products and making our products better for the environment," Wigle shares.

Making their products better for the environment has led Intel to found the Climate Savers Computing Initiative along with other environmentally conscious firms. Climate Savers Computing aims to increase efficiencies in computer power usage. According to Wigle, the organization is on track to meet their goal of reducing CO2 emissions by 52 million tons by 2010.

"Computers and communications equipment account for about two percent of global CO2 (emissions)," Wigle comments. "But, we have an opportunity to have a huge impact on the other 98 percent." This focus on working to reduce CO2 emissions in other industries through smart grids and smarter modeling tools is part of Intel's Digital Energy Solutions campaign.
