New Models of Social Responsibilty

Experts in corporate social responsibility, sustainability and corporate citizenship will soon meet at a virtual summit to explore best practices and dynamics shaping new models of social responsibility. The event, to be held on two half-days on Nov. 5 and 9, is sponsored by Communitelligence, producer of conferences and other resources on business communication trends, and Cisco, worldwide leader in networking for the Internet.

United Nations representative Elizabeth Gore, Timberland Co. CEO Jeffrey Swartz, and senior executives from the Corporation for National and Community Service, Habitat for Humanity, and Employee Engagement Group are among the event’s more than 25 speakers. In addition, social responsibility executives representing Cisco, Office Depot, Whirlpool, eBay, Waggener Edstrom and Will Marré', former president and co-founder of the Covey Leadership Center and author of the new book Save The Planet & Still Be Home for Dinner, will also participate.

"As budgets have come under intense scrutiny, the role of social responsibility has begun to shift and evolve," said John Gerstner, president, Communitelligence. "Today, more than ever, organizations need to collaborate to identify and create new models in social responsibility to keep pace with change, share best practices and plan for the future."

Each half-day session will address a critical theme shaping social responsibility. The program on Nov. 5 (8 a.m. - noon PST) will explore "Building and Evolving a Social Responsibility Program in a Tough Economy." On Nov. 9 (2-6 p.m. PST), attendees will examine new tools for "Communicating Social Responsibility in the New Age." The summit will also offer panel discussions, case studies, videos and "big question" brainstorming to enhance collaboration.

The event will be held via Cisco WebEx™ (online) and Cisco TelePresence™ in San Jose, Chicago, Boston, New York, Washington, Research Triangle Park, Atlanta, and Bangalore. WebEx is a Web and voice conferencing solution that enables people to hold interactive online events using any computer with an online connection. TelePresence creates a live experience for attendees to meet, share content and more over the network for an immersive in-person experience.

"These discussions will drive innovative thinking so that businesses, nonprofits, government and educational institutions can expand their vision around programs in social investments and community service," said Sandra Wheatley, director, global community relations, Cisco. "Attendees will also examine the business case for social responsibility, which is essential today."
