APCO Strengthens Support for Clinton Global Initiative at 2009 Meeting

APCO Worldwide supports the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) with the organization's fifth annual meeting, communicating the social and environmental impact of its members by arranging media interviews, offering communication training and providing strategic counsel, Margery Kraus, APCO founder and chief executive officer, announced today. The 2009 CGI annual meeting concluded today after unveiling 282 new Commitments To Action worth more than $1.5 billion, and announcing that its members' work has benefited more than 200 million people around the world since 2005.

In 2009 APCO helped CGI and more than 100 of its members achieve new levels of visibility for their good work, and provide training and technical assistance to delegates about how to best explain their organizations and impact to the media and in meetings with potential partners. APCO facilitated interviews between CGI members and leading media, including The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, The New York Times, Business Week and CNN, as well as blogs such as The Daily Beast and Treehugger. APCO also provided assistance for CGI media partners Economist and Bloomberg TV.

APCO made a commitment in 2008 to assist CGI and its members in publicizing the impact of their commitments. As part of APCO's CGI Commitment to Action and sponsorship, the consultancy helped other CGI members -- leaders from multinational corporations, social enterprises, governments and nonprofits -- garner interest for the causes they are addressing, demonstrate their successes and highlight the wide-ranging achievements of CGI as a whole.

"CGI brings together a community of global leaders to devise and implement innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges," said Kraus. "It is an honor and a pleasure to be a CGI sponsor and support its members in drawing attention to the work they do to improve our world."

Former President Bill Clinton launched CGI, a project of the nonpartisan Clinton Foundation, in 2005 as a catalyst for action. Since then, CGI members have made nearly 1,000 Commitments to Action valued at upwards of $30 billion to improve more than 200 million lives in over 150 countries around the world.

For 25 years, APCO has maintained a long-standing commitment to working across all sectors -- business, government and civil society -- to help develop solutions to critical social issues.
