Annapolis, MD - July 27, 2009 - "It's not easy being green," laments Kermit the Frog. Fortunately for Maryland residents they have My Green Guide Maryland, a comprehensive guide to sustainable living in the state making green living easy.

My Green Guide Maryland debuts Fall 2009 and provides Maryland residents with a complete and comprehensive local resource for green living. The focal point of My Green Guide Maryland is the Green Business Directory, a listing of all types of Maryland businesses using sustainable business practices.

The Green Business Directory is robust with a wide category of businesses from cleaning, clothing and education to pets, recreation, travel and transportation giving Maryland residents the choice to use a green business rather than a business that does not use sustainable practices. Any business is eligible to be listed in the Green Business Directory after certifying that they have made a clear commitment to sustainable business practices as outlined in the standard practices on MyGreenGuideMaryland.com/qualify. To see if they qualify to be included in My Green Guide Maryland, businesses and agencies are encouraged to visit MyGreenGuideMaryland.com/qualify. Qualifying businesses will be invited to submit their information free of charge to the Green Business Directory. Deadline for inclusion in the Fall issue is August 7, 2009.

My Green Guide Maryland also includes:

  • CSAs (Community supported agriculture) by county
  • Farmers' Markets open through the winter by county
  • Round up of commuter information by county
  • Maryland biking laws and roads with bike lanes
  • The best of bike rides/good runs and hikes
  • Winter park roundup
  • Local environmental initiatives
  • Green iPod applications
  • Urban farmers and regulations by county
  • Green Schools
  • Transit Guide
  • Non-profit agencies focusing on: Chesapeake Bay, Environmental Education, Land and Animal Conservation, River Keepers and Environmental Advocacy
  • And much more.

The print guide comes out in the Fall and Spring of each year. Online at MyGreenGuideMaryland.com resources are updated daily including a calendar of events, a weekly e-newsletter, current events shaping environmental policy in the state and beyond, as well as fun ways to enjoy and protect our resources.

Published by Jefferson Communications, LLC publisher of the award-winning Chesapeake Family Magazine, My Green Guide Maryland is the compliment to the hope of publisher Donna Jefferson that all people and especially families will get outside, be active and learn to protect the environment they live in.

After all, as Kermit sang so many years ago, "When green is all there is to be, it could make you wonder why. But why wonder why [I am green]"¦it's beautiful. And I think it's what I want to be."
