Submitted by El Paso Energy Corporation

HOUSTON, TX -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 07/15/09 -- El Paso Corporation
(NYSE: EP) announced today that it has published its 2008 corporate
sustainability report (CSR). The report, which was prepared according to the Global Reporting Initiatives' (GRI) G3 guidelines for
sustainability reporting, presents El Paso's performance against a wide variety of corporate responsibility measures and includes key environmental, safety, governance, and stakeholder engagement metrics.

This year, El Paso took additional steps to enhance the disclosures in its CSR, including providing additional information with regard to the company's political accountability and outlining its reporting process. These enhanced disclosures were reviewed and verified by the GRI, which reviews the quality and comprehensiveness of disclosures contained in CSR filings throughout the world.

The online version of the sustainability report has been updated to reflect 2008 data and can be accessed under the Sustainability tab on El Paso's Web site (www.elpaso.com). A full version of the report is available for download as part of the online version. In addition, El Paso is distributing a poster-sized version of the report summarizing key sustainability performance data. The poster format will serve as a convenient educational and quick-reference document.

El Paso's publication of its second sustainability report builds on the company's continuing commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability. Since January 2008, El Paso:

  • Continued to develop the proposed $3 billion Ruby Pipeline as a carbon-neutral project by mitigating future emissions through a portfolio of technologies and market-based options.
  • Subsidiaries, El Paso Natural Gas Company and Colorado Interstate Gas Company, became Founding Reporters of The Climate Registry by being among the first to join the organization. The Climate Registry is a non-profit organization established to measure and publicly report greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in a common, accurate, and transparent manner, consistent across industry sectors and borders.
  • Became the first natural gas company to obtain approval of its GHG emissions inventory from The California Climate Action Registry (CCAR), which approved and registered the total emissions of El Paso for all applicable GHG pollutants in the U.S.
  • Was named a nationally recognized Best Workplaces for Commuters for the fourth consecutive year.

El Paso Corporation provides natural gas and related energy products in a safe, efficient, and dependable manner. The company owns North America's largest interstate natural gas pipeline system and one of North America's largest independent natural gas producers. For more information, visit www.elpaso.com.
