Jul. 13 /CSRwire/ - PHILADELPHIA, PA - July 13, 2009 - Five Winds International, a sustainability management company with locations in the U.S., Canada and Europe, today announced the opening of their newest office in suburban Philadelphia. With a growing demand for their services in the Northeastern U.S., the company chose to open an additional U.S. site to meet that need.

"We have some great clients located in this area of the country," says Five Winds Managing Director Dr. James Fava. "But it's the tip of the iceberg. Sustainability as a business advantage is gaining momentum across the U.S. and particularly in this region. We wanted to take advantage of that by offering our services from a location that is well positioned to meet that demand. Geographically, it is in close proximity to most urban centers in the Northeast corridor and that accessibility is important not only for our clients but for us to meet our need to work towards being a carbon neutral business.

Five Winds has been in operation for over ten years, helping clients in North and South America, Europe and Australia to incorporate environmental business practices and social responsibility into their core business activities. The advantages to this approach are two-fold: it allows corporations, businesses and other organizations to operate within the best interests of the environment and - in turn - of society; and it provides a competitive business advantage where the returns of operating in this capacity are financially advantageous. While sustainability management is a fairly new concept to some businesses, it is based on practices that have been adopted internationally for well over a decade.

"The idea that environmentally sound business practices can provide companies with a competitive advantage is a new way of thinking for many organizations," explains Dr. Fava. "Once there is an understanding that it can help them to run their operations more efficiently, provide brand enhancement and improve customer relationships, it becomes an easier decision to go green. For those already navigating sustainable operations, we also provide guidance in terms of best practices and the newest technologies and approaches. We are looking forward to working with both types of companies in this region of the country."

While its sustainability services may be new to many companies in the Northeastern U.S., the range of clients Five Winds has worked with include large multinationals like Johnson & Johnson, Coca Cola, and BASF; municipal organizations like the City of Denver and MetroVancouver, British Columbia; and global associations like the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
