Lloyd Jones, president of Alcoa Asia Pacific, said, "Sustainability is not a one-time event. It is a journey based on continuous improvement and an unwavering, action-oriented focus on the end goals. Alcoa's operations in China are in the early stages of the journey. This report will show the progress we have made and the challenges that remain."

Significant highlights from China include:

Integration of Alcoa’s environment, health and safety standards and culture into its facilities in China has resulted in significant reduction of total recordable injuries from 2005.

In 2006, Alcoa acquired and began operating the Kunshan plant in Kunshan City, setting a strategic footprint for Alcoa China in automotive brazing sheet products. In addition, Alcoa began the construction of a new coil-coating line for its wholly owned Alcoa (Shanghai) Aluminum Products Co., increasing its development opportunities in China.
Through Alcoa and the Alcoa Foundation, community service activities increased with more than 400 employees participating in Month of Service projects involving environmental enhancements, education initiatives, and other community events.
