Arrow Electronics, Inc. (NYSE: ARW) has been named one of the best places to work for IT professionals by Computerworld magazine. The recognition comes as part of the magazine’s annual 100 Best Places to Work in IT Study.

“We are proud of this acknowledgment from Computerworld. In today’s marketplace, you have to do more than just offer a competitive salary to retain top IT professionals. We work hard to foster a stimulating and positive work environment by offering challenging projects, rotational assignments, individual career development, lots of training, flexible work scheduling, a sabbatical program, and competitive benefits,” said Jean Sheng, Arrow’s Vice President of Human Resources.

From January 21 through March 8, Computerworld invited CIOs, vice presidents, and IT directors at U.S.-based companies with 1999 revenues of $500 million or more and a minimum IT staff of 15 employees to participate in the survey. The magazine’s 46-question, online survey asked about the organizations’ benefits, training and development, average salary increases, percentage of staff promoted, turnover rates, and the percentage of women and minority employees in IT management positions. In addition, information was collected on each organization’s hot projects, mentoring programs, and a variety of benefits, ranging from elder care and child care to flextime and stock options.

“Being recognized by Computerworld as one of the best places to work really says a lot about our company’s commitment to IT professionals,” said David Westmoreland, Arrow’s Vice President and Chief Information Officer. “We will continue to work hard to make Arrow an attractive company that draws some of the best IT talent in the industry,” he added.

Arrow Electronics is the world’s largest distributor of electronic components and computer products, with 1999 sales of $9.3 billion. Headquartered in Melville, New York, Arrow serves as a supply channel partner for more than 600 suppliers and 175,000 original equipment manufacturers and commercial customers through more than 225 sales facilities and 19 distribution centers in 37 countries.
