New York, New York - St. Vincent's Hospital received a $759,100 grant today from the Avon Foundation at a ceremony at its Greenwich Village location. The donation is part of the $7 million raised by Avon's sales representatives for victims of the attacks of September 11th. The Avon Foundation Recovery Program for St. Vincent's Hospital will provide crisis counseling and trauma services to students, school personnel and parents at three schools in the immediate vicinity of ground zero: The High School of Economics and Finance, The High School of Leadership, and P.S. 89 (elementary school).

"We are extremely grateful to Avon's sales representatives who worked so tirelessly and selflessly to raise money for victims of September 11th," said Joseph T. English, M.D., Chairman of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers, who received the check on behalf of the Program. "Given their close proximity to Ground Zero, the students, school personnel and parents of these schools were especially traumatized and Avon's donation will enable us to continue to counsel and assist them in their emotional and mental recovery."

Brian Connolly, President of Avon, North America, who presented the check, said: "On behalf of Avon sales representatives, who were the heart and soul of this remarkable fund-raising effort for the victims of September 11th, Avon is a proud partner with St. Vincent's in its ongoing efforts to help those school communities most affected by the attack and collapse of the Twin Towers."

The High School of Economics and Finance, The High School of Leadership, and P.S. 89 have about 1,500 students. On the morning of the attack, many escaped lower Manhattan by fleeing on ferry to New Jersey and Staten Island, and many students, including the youngest ones, went hours without communicating with their parents. The trauma extended well past September, as school children were forced to relocate to other schools until early this Spring. In February and March of 2002, the students had to deal with the emotional impact of returning to their schools.

Avon's $759,100 contribution marks the final dispersal of funds from the company's "Heart of America" campaign during which Avon sales representatives raised more than $7 million in 10 days through the sale of a special "Heart of America" pin.
