RICHFIELD, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 16, 2007--Best Buy Co., Inc. has announced that applications are now being accepted for its 2008 Best Buy Teach Awards, which reward innovative use of technology in K-12 classrooms.

Applications will be accepted for the 2008 Best Buy Teach Awards through September 30, 2007. Winners will be announced in February 2008, and eight $100,000 district-level awards will be announced in May 2008. All accredited, public and private nonprofit elementary, middle and secondary schools located within 50 miles of a U.S. Best
Buy store are eligible.

Last year, 1,300 schools nationwide received Best Buy Teach Awards. This year more than 1,500 schools will receive Teach Awards of $2,000 to $10,000. Each winning school may use the award to purchase technology at Best Buy to extend, expand, or enhance current classroom curricula.

"We firmly believe that technology can excite and engage students in the learning process, creating more valuable education experiences over time," said Paula Prahl, vice president, public affairs, Best Buy. "The applications we receive year after year demonstrate that teachers and schools have such wonderful, technologically creative ideas, but needed funds aren't available. Best Buy Teach Awards help to bridge that gap by helping schools access the interactive technology to make learning fun."

Since 2004, the Best Buy Teach Award program has donated more than $13.5 million to 4,800 U.S. schools, serving as the cornerstone of its community and philanthropic work.
