AUBURN HILLS, MI-Chrysler Group President and CEO Dieter Zetsche on Thursday evening presented separate $25,000 checks from the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund to both the Old Newsboys' Goodfellows Fund of Detroit and the Food Bank of Oakland County (Mich.), respectively. The money will be used to provide holiday packages and other programs serving children, and food for those in need in the metro Detroit area and beyond.

"The DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund has a long tradition of assisting worthy causes," said Zetsche. "And, we're happy to continue that tradition by helping these two great organizations in their efforts to help the less fortunate. The programs they provide go far beyond the holiday season, and we're glad we can contribute to their work in the name of the men and women of the Chrysler Group."

"Those of us who have been truly blessed cannot forget about those who are not so fortunate," said W. Frank Fountain, Chrysler Group Senior Vice President and President of the DaimlerChrysler Fund. "This year, we decided to assist two organizations, rather than one, as we have done in the past. We saw it as a way to broaden the opportunity to help those who need it, and to demonstrate our commitment to the communities in which we operate."

The Old Newsboys' Goodfellows Fund of Detroit will provide holiday packages to more than 45,000 children this year, as part of its 88-year tradition of making sure there is "No Kiddie Without a Christmas." Other Goodfellows programs include dental care and footwear programs, summer camp scholarships and academic scholarships.

The Food Bank of Oakland County, based in Pontiac, Mich., provides food and personal care products for more than 200 emergency food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters with over 300 sites. In 2001-2002, the Food Bank will distribute 6.4 million meals.

Since it was established in 1953, the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund has given generously to charitable and non-profit organizations throughout the area and beyond.
