CAPT Kiddie Korner Playground Links Major Corporations With The Bay Shore Community To Help Over 100 Children

NEW YORK, Aug. 11 /CSRwire/ - Family Service League (FSL) is teaming up with Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA), and KaBOOM!, a national non-profit organization that joins communities and corporations by building needed playgrounds across the country. The organizations are building the Kiddie Korner Playground on Tuesday, August 15 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. adjacent to FSL's Bay Shore Center at 38 Park Avenue. The Kiddie Korner Playground will serve more than 100 pre-school children in the community. A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. to present the playground to the community and signify the conclusion of the event.

"This extraordinary playground will bring joy and happiness to the children we serve in this community for many years to come. We are proud to have been chosen by Computer Associates and KaBOOM! for this project, and thank them for their unwavering commitment to families and children," said Rick Van Dyke, Jr., executive director, FSL.

Hundreds of volunteers from CA and FSL will erect the playground designed with input from FSL's children. Parents and children from FSL's Children and Parent's Together (CAPT) program will also participate in the day by helping paint a mural on the wall of the FSL Center and constructing garden and flower boxes on the premises.

CA is financing the project and has donated thousands of dollars as well as in-kind contributions, time, planning and cooperative efforts to make this a successful event. CA employees are also volunteering their time to assist in the playground's construction.

"The CAPT Kiddie Playground is an ideal opportunity for CA to give back to the community and promote the need for safe playgrounds on Long Island," said Deborah Coughlin, CA senior vice president, Human Resources. "We are very pleased to be supporting the Family Service League and KaBOOM!. We hope that other companies and individuals will follow CA's example and help provide for their communities."

Karen Boorshtien, director of the FSL Bay Shore Center said, "This CAPT Kiddie Korner is a much-needed, safe and accessible playground for the children. The playground will provide a haven for children to play games with friends, keep fit and healthy and develop skills. The children helped design the playground themselves and are so excited."

Family Service League manages one of the largest and most comprehensive networks of care for individuals, children and families on Long Island. In 2001, the agency will celebrate its 75th anniversary. For more information about FSL visit www.fsl-li.org.
