Eastman Kodak Company today announced the presentation of an educational grant to the AHRA (American Healthcare Radiology Administrators) Education Foundation. The grant will be used to develop and administer the industry's first certification program for radiology administrators. As part of this program, the Education Foundation will create study materials; develop and administer a standardized test; and award certificates. The first test will be administered in conjunction with the 30th annual AHRA meeting July 28-August 1, 2002, in New Orleans. The voluntary certification will be known as CRA, which stands for Certified Radiology Administrator, and will meet the standards for credentialing programs set by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies.

"We believe this certification program will help identify outstanding achievements made by individual radiology administrators. It will also showcase the value radiology administrators as a group bring to their health care organizations," said Richard F. Cimino, vice president of Eastman Kodak Company and Americas area business general manager of Kodak's Health Imaging division.

"We want to express our deep appreciation to Kodak for their willingness to help us fund this ambitious program, which will have far-reaching effects for radiology administrators and others involved in the delivery of imaging services," said J.D. Mace, chair of the AHRA Education Foundation.

The idea to create a certification program was born from a market research survey conducted by AHRA in which an overwhelming majority of radiology administrators reported that a certification program could support and advance their professional roles.

"The role of radiology administrator has changed rapidly in recent years," said Mace. "A credentialing program will identify the current scope of responsibilities and skills that are required for the position, and allow prospective and current radiology administrators to demonstrate their acumen in these areas."
