ExxonMobil Foundation announced today it has provided grants of more than $75,000 to fund 29 student internships in the Washington D.C. and Northern Virginia nonprofit sector for the 2000 ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program.
Administered by Volunteer Fairfax, the ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program provides full-time college students with eight-week internships to gain experience in a broad range of nonprofit human service, health and cultural organizations.
"The ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program offers college students a unique on-the-job opportunity to understand the vital services provided by the nonprofit sector, while also assisting the 29 selected agencies with talented interns who can help deliver these important services," said Hal Cramer, President, ExxonMobil Fuels Marketing Company. "ExxonMobil takes great pride in being a long-term sponsor of this program. We believe strongly in supporting the communities in which we operate and our Community Summer Jobs Program is one of ExxonMobil's signature community contribution and outreach programs."
"It is always a challenge to effectively communicate to college students the enormous impact the nonprofit sector has on society and the merits of choosing a full-time career in community service," said Jane Kornblut, executive director of Volunteer Fairfax. "The ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program does just that -- it exposes the best and the brightest on our college campuses to the nonprofit community and the significance of its role in affecting positive societal change."
The Community Summer Jobs Program was founded in 1971, and the program has provided more than $2.8 million in funding for approximately 1,600 internships.
