New Metro Detroit Area Public Tennis Courts to be Part Of Federal-Mogul Commitment to 'The Tennis Moguls'

Tennis can be enjoyed by
virtually anyone, and that's a point Federal-Mogul Corporation (NYSE: FMO)
intends to drive home through a major gift being planned in conjunction with
the introduction of "The Tennis Moguls" -- a program to benefit hundreds of
area children in need.
Federal-Mogul has announced that it will fund and construct one free
public tennis court, including perimeter fencing, each year for the next three
years, for use by residents of the Metro Detroit area. The location of the
first court will be announced this evening during the annual dinner and
auction for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Detroit, to be held at
6 p.m. at the Ritz-Carlton, Dearborn.
The Tennis Moguls is a three-year program that will provide free summer
tennis clinics and more than 1,400 hours of personal lessons to children
participating in Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring programs. Federal-Mogul,
which created the tennis program in partnership with the United States Tennis
Association, is providing the required funding for all instruction.
"In looking for a new way to help enhance the lives of hundreds of area
children, we realized the benefits of tennis extend to almost anyone, of any
age or background," said Federal-Mogul Chairman, Chief Executive Officer Dick
Snell. "The idea to build public tennis courts for the community seemed like
an ideal tie-in to The Tennis Moguls."
The benefits of tennis -- the sport's family orientation, low-cost/low-
entry and its potential role in enhancing personal fitness and self-esteem --
are at the very heart of The Tennis Moguls, said Snell, a national board
member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
"Above all, we were looking for an activity that would encourage the
'bigs' and 'littles' of Big Brothers Big Sisters to spend more time together,"
he said. "Tennis skills represent another positive characteristic they can
share, enriching the mentoring relationship."
Federal-Mogul worked with Big Brothers Big Sisters to choose a site for
the first court, with accessibility as the chief criterion, according to
Snell. "This is a gift to the area, and we want it to bring enjoyment to
hundreds of residents each year," he said.
The Tennis Moguls is the latest demonstration of Federal-Mogul's
commitment to the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters. The company has helped
raise more than $1 million for the organization since 1997; in addition,
employees at the Federal-Mogul World Headquarters in Southfield have provided
at least 10,000 hours of volunteer time each year over the same period.
Headquartered in Southfield, Michigan, Federal-Mogul is an automotive
parts manufacturer providing innovative solutions and systems to global
customers in the automotive, small engine, heavy-duty and industrial markets.
