RAVENNA - (NYSE: KEY) KeyBank today presented a two-year Key Foundation grant totaling $50,000 to Robinson Memorial Hospital in support of the hospital's workforce development program and its ongoing efforts to advance employees into higher paying, in-demand nursing and radiology careers.

Recruiting and retaining qualified medical employees continues to be a top priority for hospitals facing the impact of national shortfalls. About 126,000 nursing positions are currently unfilled across the country, according to the American Hospital Association. The American Medical Association estimates that number will climb to 400,000 by 2020. Also, the American Society of Radiologic Technologies estimates that more than 30,000 radiology vacancies currently exist nationwide. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that more 50,000 additional radiology technologists will be needed by 2008.

Combating these shortages through its workforce development program, Robinson Memorial Hospital provides tuition assistance to 100 Hospital employees; individual healthcare career counseling to 45 employees; and healthcare career counseling fairs that consistently draw an average of 50 employees. Through the program, Robinson Memorial Hospital provided $2,000 scholarships to five employees and $4,000 grants to 10 employees in 2004.

"Robinson Memorial Hospital is marked by a talented workforce," says KeyBank Eastern Ohio District President Thomas E. Tulodzieski. "Its pursuit of superior healthcare largely reflects a strong dedication to help employees reach their full potential. Everyone benefits from a healthy hospital."

"Support from organizations such as Key play an incredible part in our ability to serve the community," says Neil Everett, manager, Employee Relations and Employment. Adds Deborah Solan, Robinson Memorial Hospital Foundation executive director: "A recent success of the program was when one of our registration clerks graduated from nursing school and became a registered nurse, thus filling a much-need role at Robinson Memorial Hospital while doubling her income. That's what the program is all about."
