CLEVELAND - KeyCorp (NYSE: KEY) has won the 2004 Governor's Award for Business Support of the Arts in Ohio. Presented by the Ohio Arts Council, the award honors the business that most significantly shapes public support for the arts via advocacy and efforts to bring statewide, national and international recognition to Ohio through sustained dedication in supporting artistic excellence.

Last year, Key made 140 grants totaling $740,000 to arts and cultural programs statewide. Margot J. Copeland, executive vice president and chair of the Key Foundation, says the profound impact arts and culture have on the human condition cannot be understated.

"The arts play a broader role for the community by bringing life to the stories of everyday men and women, boys and girls, and are a powerful way to portray what's real, what's important, what's uncomfortable and what we need to learn," says Copeland, who also serves as director of corporate diversity at Key. "Quite frankly, the arts galvanize all of our thoughts, feelings and emotions and are such an individualized kind of expression that resonates and speaks to those that it appeals to."

VSA Ohio nominated KeyCorp for the Governor's Award, recognizing the KeyBank Dayton District for support of its Accessible Expressions program, which enabled as a many as 300 artists with disabilities, each year over the last six years, to present their work in communities across the state.

When accepting the award on Arts Day, Wednesday, March 24, at a special ceremony in Columbus, Ohio, KeyBank Dayton District President William S. Hann emphasized the hallmark role thriving arts and cultural programs play in supporting local economies and in defining great places to live.
