Marking Its 100th Year, PSEG Announces Century of Caring Grants

Newark, NJ – PSEG today announced that in honor of its 100th anniversary the PSEG Foundation was making two Century of Caring $100,000 grants and funding the building of a Habitat for Humanity house in the company’s hometown of Newark.

The two $100,000 grants will be awarded via a Request For Proposal process. One will be awarded in the area of Children and Families and one will be awarded in the area of Community and Economic Development. The PSEG Habitat Home will not only be funded by the company, but also built by employee volunteers and future owners of the house.

“PSEG and its employees make a strong positive impact on the communities we serve every day. For our 100th anniversary we are proud to make that extra effort to do even more,” said E. James Ferland, Chairman and CEO of PSEG.

“PSEG has been a friend of Newark for 100 years – not just building infrastructure and helping the economy but helping the people of the city. The commitment of the company – and its employees – to build a Habitat Home in Newark reinforces this proud history and enables Habitat to reach our own milestone – our 50th home,” said James. T. Tierney, executive director, Habitat Newark.

The announcement was made at a 100th anniversary reception held at PSEG’s corporate headquarters in Newark. The event was attended by New Jersey’s government and community leaders, union heads and current and past officers of the company.

At the reception, PSEG also unveiled a 100th anniversary book: Making Things Work, PSEG’s First Century, chock full of old pictures, memorabilia and fascinating sidebars. The 120-page glossy book is being distributed to employees, retirees and public libraries. A limited number of copies are available to the public details can be found on a special anniversary website, pseg.com/anniversary. The anniversary website was also officially launched at the reception, and has three timelines featuring the company’s history, trucks and advertisements though the years. It also gives visitors a chance to leave their own PSEG memories for others to view.

The company also premiered a 10-minute anniversary video, which provides a brief overview of the company’s history as well as some compelling interviews. One such interview, with Al Mitch III, talks about how his father and grandfather of the same name have held various jobs at the company – collectively they have been part of the PSEG family for 105 years. Al is one of 13 current employees whose father and grandfather of the same first and last name work for the company.

PSEG is a diversified energy company (NYSE:PEG) located in Newark, NJ. PSEG subsidiaries include: PSE&G, New Jersey’s oldest and largest combined public gas and electric utility; PSEG Power, a major regional independent power producer; and, PSEG Holdings which includes other unregulated energy businesses. PSEG was founded in 1903 and is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
