CAMP HILL, PA - Rite Aid associates at the chain's 3,400 stores pitched in and raised $2,635,062 dollars for local children's hospitals across the country, making Rite Aid one of the top contributors to Children's Miracle Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping kids by raising funds for children's hospitals across North America. Rite Aid associates have raised nearly $15 million dollars for Children's Miracle Network since 1994.

Rite Aid associates sold $1 Miracle Balloons from March 24 - May 11, 2003 with 100% of the contributions going to local children's hospitals to benefit children's health initiatives. Each customer who bought a balloon signed their name on it and the balloon was displayed on Rite Aid's wall throughout the campaign. Many Rite Aid associates went above and beyond simply selling the balloons and hosted parking lot carnivals, bake sales, auctions, competitions, car washes, and much more. A few associates even shaved their head to raise funds for their local children's hospital.

"Our associates once again did an outstanding job demonstrating their commitment to being caring neighbors and to being involved in their communities in meaningful ways. Their efforts, as well as the generosity of our many customers, will greatly benefit children and families in the communities that Rite Aid serves," said Mary Sammons, Rite Aid president and chief executive officer.

During the campaign, associates are encouraged to be creative in developing fundraising events. A Springvale, ME store hosted a kayak race and raised over $13,000 for Barbara Bush Children's Hospital in Portland, ME. Rite Aid stores in Brooklyn, NY all got together and held a cricket tournament, netting over $10,000 for children's hospitals in New York and New Jersey. Rite Aid's executive team, led by CEO Mary Sammons and Chairman Bob Miller, pitched into the effort and washed corporate associate's cars on a hot day in May for a donation to Children's Miracle Network. The executive carwash raised over $14,000 for Penn State Children's Hospital in Hershey, PA.

Children's Miracle Network CEO an co-founder Mick Shannon, said, "It's phenomenal to see Rite Aid's 77,000 associates coming together to help kids. Rite Aid has an obvious strong commitment to this cause and their efforts will help many sick children and their families. We can't wait for next year!"
