Roadway Express, Inc. (NASDAQ: ROAD) announces five high school recipients of the Company's sponsored scholarships, and five GAR scholarship winners, all of which are available to children of the motor carrier's employees.

The National Merit Scholarship Corp., an independent, non-profit organization, administers the annual scholarships. Winners are chosen on the basis of test scores, academic record, leadership and extracurricular accomplishments. The scholarships have a value of $5000 per year for up to four years. The GAR Foundation was first established by the Galen Roush family in 1967 as the Roush Foundation, changing to the GAR Foundation in 1981. Galen Roush and his brother Carroll founded Roadway Express in 1930. The GAR's charitable priorities are education, the arts and community well-being.

"The management and employees of Roadway Express are very proud to be able to present scholarships to these students who have shown exceptional academic and leadership qualities," stated Bob Chess, director of human resources for Roadway. "It is very rewarding for us to be involved with such talented young men and women. We wish each of them much success in their college careers and beyond."
