Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. today celebrated the opening of a state-of-the art child care center, called the "Schwab Family Center @ Orlando," at its location at 1950 Summit Park Drive. The center will serve Schwab employees' children.

The Family Center offers full-time child care for children from six weeks of age to pre-Kindergarten. Managed by Bright Horizons Family Solutions, the center has capacity for 80 children. Forty-eight are currently enrolled.

"Our goal is to be the employer of choice in all the locations where we do business, and as part of that initiative we also want to be the most family-friendly place to work," said Andy Rich, Schwab executive vice president/human resources. "It's important to us to offer our employees a supportive environment that promotes balance between the rigors of work and the demands of home," he added.

"This center will provide high-quality child care to our employees at competitive market rates," noted Rich. "It makes great business sense to create child care solutions like this, and we're exploring the feasibility of opening additional family centers in other Schwab locations across the country."

Jackie Legg, senior vice president of operations at Bright Horizons, described how the Bright Horizons' programs are designed to be developmentally appropriate for each age group, while still taking the needs and development of each child into consideration. "Our curriculum is based on the principle that children are active learners and there is no clear separation between learning and caring, play and work," she said.

Schwab employees have already responded to with enthusiasm. John Rivera, a team manager in Schwab's Retail Client Services division, gave a glowing report of the impact the new day care center has already made on his life. "I have a 40-minute commute to work every morning, and now I get to enjoy the company of my two-year-old son," he said. "I've been extremely grateful for
the way Schwab has provided for me over the five and a half years I've been with the company, but words can't express how grateful I am for what Schwab is now providing for my son."

Grand opening activities included a ribbon cutting ceremony, while a clown and balloon artist entertained the younger guests.
