CUPERTINO, Calif. - April 15, 2009 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced it has earned widespread recognition for its leadership role in promoting sustainability for the software industry. The company continues to invest in continuous improvement by integrating corporate responsibility (CR) measures into its business strategy and operations.

Symantec has recently earned awards and recognition from a variety of notable organizations, including:

  • The Ethisphere Institute named Symantec to its 2009 "World's Most Ethical Companies" rankings in the Computer Software category. This award recognizes companies that ensure ethical practices remain a top business priority.
  • Ceres and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) gave Symantec the prestigious 2008 Ceres-ACCA Sustainability Reporting Award for "Best First Time Report" for its inaugural corporate responsibility report.

"Our mission of helping to secure and manage an information-driven world is achievable only through ethical operations, commitment to societal impact and environmental consciousness," said Cecily Joseph, director of Corporate Responsibility, Symantec. "These awards and recognition are the result of a multi-year effort to identify key issues and integrate corporate responsibility into Symantec's business operations."

Symantec convened an external advisory council, consisting of industry leaders in ethics, philanthropy, environment, sustainability practice and responsible investment, to advise the company on its CR report and help to establish ongoing priorities.
