Target Corporation (NYSE: TGT) today announced it has donated $15,000 to the American Red Cross to help Seattle-area earthquake victims. In addition, volunteers from Target Stores and Mervyn's are helping with area clean-up efforts.

The earthquake struck Seattle February 28. With a magnitude of 6.8, it was the area's most powerful earthquake in 50 years, causing billions of dollars in damage to the city and surrounding area. Approximately 400 people were injured.

Target Corporation's $15,000 donation will be used to provide clothing, blankets, water, baby formula, health care supplies and other necessities. Target Stores has also donated 1,000 Helping Hugs plush bears to comfort children during this time.

"This is a difficult time for all those affected by the earthquake," said Laysha Ward, director of community relations for Target Corporation. "As a community partner, we want to do our part to help the residents of the greater Seattle-area move forward after this disaster."
