The Earthgrains Company will donate five cents to the American Cancer Society in St. Louis for every package of Earth Grains brand breads, bagels and buns sold in the metropolitan St. Louis area in Missouri and Illinois from Sunday, June 25, to Sunday, July 16.

St. Louis-based Earthgrains, the second-largest packaged bread baker in the country, will make a minimum donation of $2,500 to the society to help support its education and advocacy programs, including the Camp Sunrise summer camp for families with children who are fighting cancer.

"The American Cancer Society contributes significantly to the quality of life in our community," said Steve Proscino, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Earthgrains' Central Region based in St. Louis. "We know the consumers of our Earth Grains brand of superpremium breads and bagels are interested in health and nutrition and will support this charitable effort."

The three-week charitable promotion leads up to the American Cancer Society's annual fund-raising golf tournament - the Earth Grains ACS Open - to be held Monday, July 17, at the Country Club of St. Albans.

The Earth Grains brand offers a full line of superpremium sliced breads, hearth-baked breads, fresh bagels, buns and rolls. In the St. Louis area, Earth Grains brand products are sold at Dierbergs and Schnucks stores and at other leading grocery retailers.

The American Cancer Society's 15th annual Camp Sunrise will be held over the Labor Day weekend at the YMCA Campgrounds near Potosi, Mo. The free camp for children ages 8 and under and their families gives cancer patients a chance to swim, ride horses and participate in other camp activities and fellowship with the help of volunteers, counselors and medical professionals.

The American Cancer Society is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem through research, education, advocacy and service. For more information about the American Cancer Society, call toll-free (800) 227-2345.
