NEW YORK - For the fifth consecutive year, Verizon will sponsor a lecture series on business ethics at Bentley College, Waltham, Mass. Presented by Bentley's Center for Business Ethics, the series begins today and will run through April 3.

Begun in 1999, the lecture series attracts business leaders, experts in the academic world, students and the public. The lectures explore and analyze how ethical conduct affects all aspects of a company's operations.

"Verizon sponsors the lectures to demonstrate our commitment to ethics in our own company and to support these values across all businesses," said Mel Schlosser, executive director of Verizon's Office of Ethics and Business Compliance. "Verizon's business is based on sound ethical practices, and our employees understand their obligation to abide by those practices through our Code of Business Conduct. It's equally important that all businesses build ethical practices, standards and values into the framework of their operations."

Frank Daly, corporate director of ethics and business conduct at Northrop Grumman Corp., will speak as part of the Verizon Visiting Professorship in Business Ethics and Information Technology. His lecture titled "Reply, Delete...or Relate? I.T.'s Human Decisions" is free and open to the public. During the week, he will visit classrooms and spark discussions with students about general business ethics topics. He also will meet with college faculty members to develop ways to blend business ethics into their curriculum.

"By sponsoring this lecture series, Verizon stepped up five years ago to champion the importance of ethics in American business," said Mike Hoffman, executive director of the Center for Business Ethics at Bentley College. "It is a fitting partnership: Verizon is in the communications business and, to a large extent, so too is the Center for Business Ethics. Clear and consistent communications about ethical best practices are probably the single most important factor in helping corporations and their people to do the right thing. Like Verizon, our visiting lecturers are leaders and true advocates for ethical business standards."

Bentley College is a business university renowned for its educational leadership in information technology.

Verizon was the first recipient of the "Business Ethics Award" from the Center for Business Ethics and is a sponsoring partner of The Ethics Officer Association.
